KeyBank, the main subsidiary of KeyCorp, is a regional
American bank with its headquarters located in
Cleveland, Ohio. The formation of KeyCorp occurred in
1994 when Society Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio (known
as "Society Bank") merged with KeyCorp (referred to as
"Old KeyCorp") of Albany, New York. This merger briefly
elevated Key to the position of the 10th largest bank in
the United States. The bank's origins can be traced back
to the Commercial Bank of Albany, New York, established
in 1825, and Cleveland's Society for Savings, founded in
1849.
